What
Is Reiki?
Reiki is an ancient healing technique that originated in Japan. The
word Reiki can be translated from the Japanese to mean Universal
Life Energy.
Everything in the universe is made
from energy. Although we appear to be solid matter, science
has shown that we are made up from atoms which in turn are made from
still smaller things with a variety of names including electrons,
protons, neutrons as well as more recently discovered energies like
quarks, mesons and so on. Each of these can be shown to be a
form of energy, vibrating at different frequencies.
Life
Force Energy can be thought of as the force which combines these
energies and creates the body as well as everything else in the
universe. Different frequencies and different energies give
different things or creatures.
We become ill when the energies in
our body becomes out of balance. This can happen across the
whole body but is more normally concentrated in the area where we
experience the illness.
The application of Reiki allows
universal energy to be channelled through the practitioner and into
the recipient. The energy is often known as "smart" energy since it
travels to the area or areas where it is most needed.
What Happens At A Reiki
Session?
You will normally lie down on a couch or similar, although you can
be sitting. You remain fully clothed although loose clothing
is beneficial as tight clothes can stop you relaxing. Soft
music will be playing to aid in your relaxation and the Reiki
practitioner will begin to place his or her hands lightly on you,
normally in places which are related to the illness or stress you
are experiencing. Some practitioners will hold their hands
slightly off the body, others will allow their hands to rest gently
on you, I prefer the latter.
Various parts of your body will
normally be used to channel energy into and you may feel the energy
as a heat, almost as if the therapist is holding a heater over you.
A session can last anything from
half an hour to a full hour depending on your needs. At the end of
the session, you will feel relaxed and full of energy at the same
time. Most people tell of a feeling of overall wellness after a
session.
Is Reiki A Religion?
No, it can be considered to be spiritual, but it is more a way of life
than a religion. There is no creed or dogma, there are no
priests or governing bodies like you would find in a religion.
Many people from all religions receive Reiki energy and many of
these go on to become Reiki practitioners themselves.
I Have Heard That Reiki Healing
Can Be Given At A Distance, Is This Possible?
Yes, it seems strange at first, but Reiki healing knows no
boundaries when it comes to sending energy. Think about the
universe for a moment. Everywhere there is energy, in us and
between us. The air is energy, the ground is energy, even
space which was once thought to be a vacuum is now considered to be
energy.
So why should it only be possible
to channel energy through a practitioner, why not through anything.
A Reiki practitioner can, and many do this regularly, channel energy
to help heal someone who they are physically distant from. The
Reiki practitioner can be thought of as the guide, and this can be
done from anywhere.
What About Other Living Things,
Can They Be Helped Too?
Again yes. Many practitioners work with animals as well as humans
since we are all made up of the same energies and all creatures can
find themselves out of balance for one reason or another. The
techniques are the same but naturally it can be difficult to get a
dog to lie quietly on a couch so the methods of application can
vary. Call me if you would like more information about this
